To ensure that the US recognizes your school work, make sure that the college is accredited by ACCET (Accrediting Council for Continuing Education and Training. The link to find out if a school is accredited, is http://ope.ed.gov/accreditation/Search.asp

It is a Department of State requirement that all au pairs complete their educational component before they are able to extend an additional 6, 9, or 12 months. Many au pairs may wonder how they'll be able to fulfill this requirement if they do not have a lot of time left on their year. The solution is easier than they think. While courses are filling up quickly, there may still be room so it's certainly worth looking into, particularly for au pairs who are coming close to the end of their year and wish to extend.
